The Park Forest Public Library uses various social media platforms to communicate library information to its community and to engage with its patrons. Social media accounts are limited public forums intended to convey information about library services, programs, and collections. The following is intended to inform users of the expectations for interactions on all Library social media websites and pages.
A user participating in the Library’s social media service consents to and agrees to comply with all Library policies. Be aware that Library social media sites are moderated by staff for compliance with this policy and are also subject to the third-party host’s terms of use.
The Library does not endorse the opinions expressed via posts and/or comments left by users on its social media sites, and the content posted does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of the Library, its officers, or employees. Social media users should exercise their own judgment about the quality and accuracy of any information presented through social media. The Park Forest Public Library does not encourage comments, photographs, links, or posts that contain any of the following:
- Pornographic, obscene, or sexual content
- Threats of violence
- Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination towards specific individuals or groups on the basis of a protected class such as race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or any other unlawful reason
- Conduct or encouragement of illegal or harmful activity
- Defamatory statements
- Plagiarized or copyrighted material
- Private, personal information published without consent
- Content totally unrelated to the content of the forum
- Hyperlinks to additional material
- Repetitive content that disrupts normal operation of the forum
- Solicitation of commerce or commercial activity or promotion
- Content that promotes or opposes a political party, person campaigning for elective office, or any ballot proposition
- Spam, malware, or viruses
The Library Director or their designee reserves the right to deny access to any/all of our social media sites for any individual who repeatedly violates this policy or applicable laws, at any time without prior notice.
By using this service, you, as a patron, agree to abide by the Library’s Social Media Policy and agree to indemnify the Library and its officers and employees, from and against all liabilities, judgments, damages, and costs (including attorney’s fees) incurred, which arise out of or are related to your acts or omissions, including claims arising out of your use of the Library’s social media sites, your submissions, postings, or transmissions on the social media sites, your violation of any policies or rules governing the Library’s social media sites, or your violation of any third party rights. Users who enter private or personal information on the Library’s social media sites do so at their own risk, and the Library is not responsible for any damages resulting from the public display of, or failure to remove, private or personal information.
Please be advised that content or posts on the Park Forest Public Library social media sites that relate to Park Forest Public Library business are considered a public record under the Illinois Public Records Law and are subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act and retention under state records retention laws. Content that is deemed not suitable for posting by library staff based on the criteria defined above shall be retained by staff pursuant to the records retention schedule in the form of a screen capture along with a description of the reason the specific content was rejected. The content will then be removed, as technology allows, from the library’s accounts.
