September 23, 2026 Minutes
Roll Call
The regular meeting of the Olympia Fields Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 6:32 pm.
Trustees Present: Jerry Pierson (President), Sherry Demian (Treasurer), Elizabeth Hadala (Secretary), and Fredi Taylor
Absent: Dr. Taneen Brinson (Vice President), Dr. Kametta Clark (Parliamentarian), and Keasar Driver
Also Present: Mary VanSwol and Andrea Townson
Liaison
Village Trustee Townson stated she would like to promote library events on the village website. She is also working on getting a blurb in the water bill for special library events.
Minutes
Trustee Demian moved to approve the minutes of the August meeting.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
President Pierson had a correction. The election of officers will not happen in September. The Board discussed the revised wording.
Trustee Taylor moved to accept the minutes from the August Board meeting as corrected.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Correspondence
President Pierson had no correspondence.
Financial Report
Trustee Demian presented the financial report. Trustee Demian made corrections to the February, March, and April reports.
Trustee Taylor moved that the Board accept the financial report.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Bank Account
Trustee Demian met with the banker at US Bank. She reported on her meeting. The current interest rate for new clients is 4%, but the rate is variable. The Board discussed changing banks.
Trustee Taylor moved that the Board transition the Olympia Fields Library Board checking and savings bank accounts to US Bank.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Trustee Demian will look into the steps of the transition to the new bank.
Centennial
Trustee Clark was not present to give an update.
Bylaws
The Board reviewed the new wording of the bylaws.
Trustee Demian moved that the Board accept the updated bylaws as submitted.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Trustee Resignation
President Pierson stated that Trustee Demian has announced that she is resigning from the Board. The October meeting will be her last meeting. President Pierson commended her many years of service and thanked her for her work as treasurer. Trustee Demian and Trustee Hadala have been working on a document to give the new treasurer on how to create monthly reports. Trustee Demian will work on the budget before she leaves.
Report From the Librarian
Library Director VanSwol reported that the library is waiting on the replacement window for Adult Services. It was supposed to be installed September 10, but installers broke the new glass. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. This month, if you get a new library card, you receive a free book. Current Park Forest Public Library cardholders can hand out referral cards. If someone gets a new library card and turns in the referral card, the referral card will go into a drawing for a gift card. The drawing will take place on October 1. The architects will be presenting the redesign of Adult Services at the Park Forest Public Library Board of Trustees meeting October 15. The library will have a table at Autumn Fest at Sergeant Means Park on October 3. Staff will be promoting library cards and signing up for the e-newsletter. Library Director VanSwol passed out October calendars that list the library’s events for the month.
President Pierson asked about the basement waterproofing and EV charging stations. Both projects are still in progress.
