Roll Call

The regular meeting of the Olympia Fields Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 6:33 pm.

Trustees Present:  Jerry Pierson (President), Dr. Taneen Brinson (Vice President), Sherry Demian (Treasurer), Elizabeth Hadala (Secretary), and Dr. Kametta Clark (Parliamentarian) 

Absent: Keasar Driver and Fredi Taylor

Also Present: Mary VanSwol and Andrea Townson

Minutes

Trustee Hadala moved to approve the minutes of the May meeting.

Trustee Brinson seconded.

The motion passed.

Correspondence

There was no correspondence.

Financial Report

Trustee Demian presented the financial report.  The $15 service charge from last month has been reversed.

Village Trustee Townson asked whether the delay in tax money was going to be a problem for the Board. Treasurer Demian stated that she thought they would be fine for the year.

Trustee Clark moved that the Board accept the financial report.

Trustee Hadala seconded.

The motion passed. 

Bylaws

The Board will continue to discuss changes to the Bylaws.

Centennial

Trustee Clark asked the Board what they are interested in doing for the Centennial.  Trustee Clark will contact former trustee Johnson to find out the status of the quilt project.

Bank Account

Trustee Demian stated that the Board needs new checks.  The current address on the checks is the Village Hall address.  Statements are currently going to the treasurer’s address. The Board discussed various options for setting the address for statements to be delivered.  They decided to have statements sent to Village Hall.

Trustee Demian said she can get 150 checks for $62.99 with a $27.32 delivery fee.  Trustee Demian will investigate banks for interest rates.  The Board discussed different types of accounts. President Pierson stated that an independent printer can also print checks.  Trustee Demian will present some options to the Board.

Report from the Librarian

Library Director VanSwol reported that the library had sidewalk leveling done to prevent tripping hazards outside the library.  The work was done quickly with minimal interruption to library services.  Summer reading kicked off May 30 with mini-golf and an ice cream truck.  The library is hosting a local art show July 1-August 1.  The opening will take place July 1 at 6 pm.  America 250: Securing the Dream for Us All has been rescheduled to July 9 at 6 pm.  Architects have drawn up plans for renovating Adult Services.  If the plan moves forward, the space would get new carpeting, new paint, new furniture, new shelving, soundproof study rooms, a digital lab, and a social worker office.  Library Director VanSwol passed out July calendars that list the library’s events for the month.

President Pierson asked about the water problem at the library.  The leak in the ceiling has been fixed.  Trustee Hadala asked about the electronic sign.  The electronic sign has been completed.

Communications

Village Trustee Townson asked that events be sent to her for a community calendar.  President Pierson thanked Village Trustee Townson for attending meetings and for her support.

Trustee Clark moved to adjourn the meeting.

Trustee Demian seconded.

The motion passed.
