OFPL January 24, 2024 Minutes
Roll Call
The regular meeting of the Olympia Fields Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 6:41 pm.
Trustees Present: Howard Robinson, Dr. Taneen Brinson, Elizabeth Hadala, Jerry Pierson, and Carolyn Johnson
Absent: Sherry Demian and Dr. Kametta Clark
Also Present: Jessica Washington and Mary VanSwol
Minutes
Trustee Pierson moved to approve the minutes of the December meeting.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Correspondence
President Robinson had no correspondence.
Financial Report
The financial report was tabled until the return of the treasurer.
Bylaws
Trustee Johnson moved to accept the changes to the Olympia Fields Public Library Board of Trustees bylaws pertaining to time of meeting, addition of the office of Parliamentarian, and provision for electronic meetings.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Little Free Library
The Board discussed the Little Free Library that needs to be replaced. They will rededicate the Little Free Library to Joan Braden. They discussed the style of the Little Free Library.
Black History Month
President Robinson stated that Black History Month is coming up. He encouraged the Board to work with the library with ideas for programming. He talked about reading time with the students at Arcadia School. He would like the Board to be more involved in the community.
A Piece of Park Forest was postponed to April 6 at 1:00 PM.
Business Cards
Trustee Pierson asked about getting business cards. The cards should be designed for Olympia Fields with the Village of Olympia Fields logo.
Report from the Librarian
Library Director Osuch could not come to the meeting. She sent information regarding programs in February. The Board is invited to a special Tai Chi event February 10.
Olympia Fields Liaison
Jessica Washington stated that the tax rebate program deadline is March 31. Applications can be turned in to Olympia Fields Village Hall.
Suggestions for Programming
Trustee Johnson suggested asking John Fountain, a writer, to do a Black History program.
Jessica Washington suggested artist Jori Jackson.
Jessica Washington stated that there is a school program called Real Men Read. Volunteers go to read to students at the schools.
Trustee Johnson suggested a talk on growing up in Africa.

Trustee Pierson moved to adjourn the meeting.
