Roll Call
The regular meeting of the Olympia Fields Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 6:35 pm.
Trustees Present: Howard Robinson (President), Elizabeth Hadala (Secretary), Jerry Pierson (Parliamentarian), Carolyn Johnson, and Dr. Kametta Clark
Absent: Sherry Demian (Treasurer) and Dr. Taneen Brinson (Vice President)
Also Present: Mary VanSwol and Jessica Washington
Approval of Minutes
Trustee Pierson moved to approve the minutes of the January meeting.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Correspondence
Trustee Hadala reported that the Board received some literacy pamphlets and a catalog.
Financial Report
Trustee Johnson moved that the Board table the financial report until Trustee Demian returns.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Centennial Committee
Trustee Johnson shared a brochure from the Village’s 75th anniversary. She suggested reaching out to Arcadia School to write something that would be put on patches for the quilt. In the spring, she suggested the library have some bookmarks or pencils saying, “The library salutes Olympia Fields on 100 years.”
Trustee Johnson reported that the planning committee is planning to dedicate the first six months to the history of Olympia Fields. The second six months would focus on the future. There will be an anniversary dinner at the country club. Meetings for the committee will be the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm at Village Hall. She suggested getting bags printed as one of the contributions from the library board.
President Robinson recommended a booklet for the 100th Anniversary.
Harassment Prevention Training
Library Director VanSwol passed out the certificates for trustees to complete.
Report from the Librarian
Library Director VanSwol reported that the painting in the Ringering Room is done, and new-to-us artwork is now hanging on the walls. The library will be closed February 28 for maintenance to the tile floor. Oba William King performed at the library on February 20. The library is looking to add notary service by training three staff members.
President Robinson has a contact who will work on a proposal to bring veterans programs to the library.
On February 8, Betty Hadala attended the kick-off meeting of the Friends of the Library. Twenty-thirty people attended, and about eight people joined the Friends group.
Trustee Pierson moved to accept the Librarian’s report.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Communications
Jessica Washington stated that Little Caesar’s had its grand opening. There will be a grand opening for VCA Animal Hospital. They are already open for business. She reported on other businesses in the area.
