Roll Call
The regular meeting of the Olympia Fields Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 6:32 pm.
Trustees Present: Jerry Pierson (President), Dr. Taneen Brinson (Vice President), Elizabeth Hadala
(Secretary), Keasar Driver, and Fredi Taylor
Absent: Sherry Demian (Treasurer) and Dr. Kametta Clark (Parliamentarian)
Also Present: Park Forest Public Library Trustee Joshua Travis and Mary VanSwol
Minutes
Trustee Brinson moved to approve the minutes of the September meeting.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Correspondence
President Pierson reported that he had no correspondence.
Financial Report
Trustee Brinson moved to table the financial report until the next meeting.
Trustee Hadala seconded.
The motion passed.
Bylaws
Trustee Brinson stated that she would like the whole board to be present for the vote. She asked that
the bylaws be sent out so that everyone can read them again.
Honorariums
Trustee Brinson stated that she would like a budget for honorariums and consistency. The Board could
make written guidelines. The Board discussed a Christmas luncheon.
Emails
Trustee Hadala asked whether the trustees had gotten into their new emails. Library Director VanSwol
stated that she could help trustees get into their email.
Per Capita Grant Review
Library Director VanSwol stated that the Board should have written procedures for transferring people
to and from banking accounts.
Report From the Librarian
Library Director VanSwol reported that the library saw an increase of 124 library cards in September
for Library Card Sign-Up Month. The new online library card registration was not working correctly,
but SWAN has fixed that. Library Director VanSwol and three other staff members attended
Autumnfest in Olympia Fields on October 4. They were able to connect with the community and get 25
more surveys completed. The survey is now over. Library Director VanSwol plans to work on starting a
Library of Things, a Micro Pantry, and a collection of circulating Hotspots. The president of the Park
Forest Public Library Board resigned from the Board effective January 2026.
Communications
President Pierson shared a calendar of events leading up to the centennial.
Events
Novemberfest is November 1 from 11 am-1 pm. There will be a table for the Olympia Fields Library Board.
President Pierson stated that there will be a Halloween event on Saturday from 11 am-2 pm at Sergeant Means Park.
The Board discussed getting shirts and signage.
