Sale of Items in the Library and on Library Grounds Policy

Sale of Items in the Library and on Library Grounds Policy

The Trustees recognize that sales of certain goods and sales by certain organizations may be useful in supporting and promoting library service and the spirit of community outreach.  The trustees have adopted the following rules to regulate sales in the library or on library grounds.

  • Goods that are sold in the library must be approved by the trustees prior to the sale.  Such goods must support the library’s mission or aid library patrons in the use of library services.
  • Only non-profit organizations will be permitted to conduct sales in the library or to place goods for sale in the library or on library grounds.  Sales inside the Library may take place from November 1 to March 31.  Such sales must receive the prior approval of the Board of Trustees.
  • The library will permit the sale of tickets to special fund-raising events only when the sponsoring organization declares that their purpose is primarily to support the Park Forest Public Library or some program of the Park Forest Public Library.
  • The library will not permit the sale of tickets or the collection of admission fees for any non-library sponsored event or program conducted in its meeting or conference rooms.
  • Whenever the library sponsors or cooperates in sponsoring a program at the library featuring an author or authors, the library will attempt to obtain copies of each of the author’s works for sale on the day of the program.  Such sales are to be seen as a service to the library’s patrons and not as a fund-raising event.
