About the Library
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
The Friends of the Park Forest Library enhance and support the operations of the library. They publish a quarterly Friends Newsletter, mailed to members of the Friends, that features reviews, a schedule of cultural programs to be held at the library, poetry, and news of interest to local readers, as well as announcements of upcoming book sales.
The Park Forest Public Library has an everyday book sale area maintained by the Friends. Browsers can find mass market and trade paperback books, nearly new hardback books, videos, books on tape, books on CD, and magazine bundles of all kinds.
During the holiday season, the Friends also sell delectable pecans, including chocolate covered and cinnamon-sugared varieties.
Donating Items to the Sales
Some of the items in our sales are things the library no longer needs, such as extra copies of recent best sellers. However, what keep these sales exciting for book lovers and collectors are the books, DVDs, videocassettes, etc., that our generous patrons donate to the library.
The library is pleased to receive donations of new and gently used books and AV materials. We accept all subjects, such as current bestsellers, hardcover fiction and nonfiction, classics, collectibles, paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, videos, audio books, children’s books, local interest, notable/special/rare editions, and current magazines.
Items must be in good condition. No moldy, torn, stained, yellowed, marked up, broken bindings, or otherwise damaged books.
If you wish to donate a special or unusual collection, please contact the library.
We CANNOT accept:
- Readers’ Digest Condensed Books
- School library discards
- Encyclopedia sets (except Encyclopedia Britannica)
- Magazines older than the current year or weekly magazines
Donated items are sold at our book sales and at The Top Shelf. All proceeds benefit the library. Donations are accepted at the back door every day except Sunday. Please ring the doorbell on the right of the Staff Entrance door for service (please don't leave them sitting outside) or come to the front desk anytime the library is open on Mondays through Saturdays.
