If you’re looking for a family restaurant with friendly staff and food with a kick, try Mabovi Restaurant. Their cuisine is African and Caribbean, featuring chicken, shrimp, tilapia, goat, and lamb dishes. I had the Spicy Chicken Wings and Browned Stew Chicken, which comes with cooked cabbage, freshly baked bread, and your choice of African rice or rice and beans. The cook took my order, and since I said I did not like my food to be too spicy, she made sure the chicken wings were not too hot. The Browned Stew Chicken came with flourless gravy, the tender and juicy meat still on the bone. The African rice reminded me of Spanish rice but with a little more kick. Bring a friend with you because the portions are huge. The ingredients are fresh at this delightful restaurant with an elegant yet colorful ambiance. Call ahead for the soups and stews because they are not made all of the time.
Flavor Restaurant
3315 Vollmer Rd.
Flossmoor, IL 60422
708-798-3220
Flavor Restaurant serves southern style food in a lively atmosphere of enthusiastic diners and live jazz (Thursday-Saturday). I had the fried pork chops with whipped sweet potatoes and collard greens. The pork chops were moist and flavorful and about twice as much as I could eat. My date had the turkey burger and fries, which were also hot, fresh, and generously portioned. Other items on the menu include Jerk Chicken, Cajun Fried Chicken, Salmon, Cajun Fried Catfish, Rochelle’s Salmon Croquettes, and Smothered Shrimp and Grits. If you are looking for a fun dinner out close to home, give Flavor a try. Flavor is also famous for breakfasts like their chicken and waffles.
